Jorge L. Sosa
Jorge was born on Dec, 13th, 1964 in Guantanamo, Cuba. In 1971 at seven years old his mother takes him to Luis A. Carbo Ricardo Elementary School, where he begins taking piano lessons. At 11 years of age he composes his first song and receives an honorable mention when he enters a contest for children composers of children’s music for his danzonete, “Mi Hermoso Hueno”. That was the first of many more to come and the beginning of his career as a composer.
From 1980 to 1984 he is accepted and attends La Escuela Profesional de Artes de Camaguey, Cuba, where he studies piano. It is here that he shows his inclination toward musical composition and begins to compose many songs such as his danzon,”Yolanda” for a string quintet, “Suite para niños” for solo piano, various arrangements of popular songs for violin quartets and saxophone quartets, as well as, music with random tendencies for ballet, “Advertencia” for the Camaguey Ballet Company as well as many others. A number of these compositions were instrumental in earning him a full scholarship majoring in musical composition at the lnstituto Superior de Artes de la Habana, where in September of 1984 he begins his studies under the guidance of Professor Roberto Varela, and graduates in 1989 with a degree in Music specializing in Composition.
Since his arrival in the United States in 1993 he has been the musical director, Pianist and Keyboard player for Willy Chirino, Celia Cruz, Nestor Torres, Chayanne, Cachao, Latin Jazz Crew, Luis Enrique, Camilo Sesto, Donato y Estefauo, Carlos Ponce, Rey Ruiz and many more. From 2010 to 2015 was the Musical Director of Unity Church of Fort Lauderdale and Musical Director of Spitual Arts Center of Fort Lauderdale from 2016 to 2019. Together with his work as producer, pianist and composer of both classical and popular music, unfolds as a computer programmer of arrangements and musical productions.
